DEAR GABBY ANSWERS STUDENT QUESTIONS!

Dear Gabby:

I really need to get back in shape after the holidays. I have kind of let myself go. What should I do? I need to lose at least 25 lbs. to feel comfortable again.

Congratulations first of all, for realizing that you need to do something for your health! Even being 25 lbs overweight can have significant health implications for you. Exercise along with diet is really the only key to losing it and to keeping it off. Dr.'s recommend that optimally you need to exercise at least 20-30 minutes a day, every day and watch processed, sugary, and salty foods. Join your local YMCA. It is inexpensive and you may qualify for a scholarship if your income does not allow for you to join. They have child care onsite that is free! Good luck!

Dear Gabby:

I am very disorganized. I cannot keep track of all of my appointments, my school days, and my kids activities and work. I usually end up forgetting something or being late. And then, how to find time for homework! Help!

Gabby says:

The first thing you need to do is to grab an inexpensive day planner at a dollar store or at Walmart. Make sure it has enough space to write in to the day sections and hopefully is broken down in to 15 min. increments of time. Then, what I want you to do is to get some highlighters in different colors. Choose a color for each subject i.e. green for work, pink for kids, blue for school, yellow for church, etc.

Now, the first things you put in your planner are your priority activities(church, family, work) and you color code them accordingly. Make sure to block out enough time for each activity and travel if necessary. Then, find blocks of time for your homework, housecleaning, grocery shopping, etc. Stick in to the schedule and you will find that you will be organized in no time! Good Luck!
